It says everything about the strife besetting the game in Wales that the Six Nations is being seen as a welcome distraction despite a dismal run of form.
It is three years and 12 matches since Wales enjoyed a victory in the tournament, and in the last four campaigns, they have defeated Scotland in 2022 – their last home victory – and Italy in Rome the following year.
