IT might well have been on the mind of the referee to postpone Sale’s narrow win over hosts Birmingham Moseley, as both sides slogged and struggled throughout.
With large areas of standing water sitting on the pitch, this one was always unlikely to be a free-flowing clash, and so it proved.
Sale’s better opening period saw them retain possession and territorial advantage, but without ever truly threatening for a try.
