Basement side Hull came within minutes of an historic victory against third-placed Sale with a display of skill and effort that belied their lowly league status.
Hull opened the scoring in the 14th minute, building pressure with a couple of scrums before wing forward Laurence Cowen-Leak dived over for the try, with off-half Reece Dean converting.
