Pre-match injury no issue for Rams

Reding's 47

Broadstreet 19

THE day started disastrously for when they lost scrum-half Oli Cole in the pre-match warm-up. Rams veteran Jez Flynn stepped onto the bench for his first game for his club in two years but a cameo two minutes at the end didn't allow the home side's all time top scorer to increase his 101-try tally.

The pre-match drama was set aside as Rams hooker Ben Henderson scored from a catch-anddrive in the fifth minute with Tom Humberstone adding the extras for a dream start.

But the afternoon was anything but easy for the Reading men as Broadstreet's Jacob Umaga tested his opposite defence throughout.

The side from Birmingham caused lots of problems and at one stage looked like creating an upset against their high flying opponents. But the recovery was snuffed out by a brutal Rams pack which grabbed its fifth penalty try of the season and pressured the Broadstreet defence with a series of powerful lineouts and scrums.

The last ten minutes were all Rams with Henderson and Illingworth grabbing their second tries and full-back Olly Foxley grabbing a final touchdown as the away team's defence faltered and with Humberstone finally finding his kicking boots.
