Fin Smith accused Bordeaux Begles of having a vendetta against Henry Pollock as Northampton Saints’ 28-20 Champions Cup final defeat ended in uproar in Cardiff.
Back row Pollock was furious with the antics of Bordeaux, who clearly targeted England’s rising star, and tempers boiled over at the end of the match.
Tevita Tatafu, one of Bordeaux’s travelling reserves, appeared to have the 20-year-old by the throat as emotions spilled over and Bordeaux won the title for the first time.
But Northampton were steaming in the aftermath.
