Gold: We paid for penalties

director of rugby Gary Gold was left ruing poor discipline as his side were denied at the death by .

Gold, who this week agreed a new permanant deal at the club, said: “I thought we were a bit unlucky not to come away as victors but we gave away too many penalties and kept the Falcons in the game.

“We’re going to have a look at ourselves because there was some soft penalties given away at crucial times. It almost feels like an 80 per cent job and we’ll end the season having not won away from home which is disappointing.

“We have one more game at home which I’m sure will be in front of a packed Sixways and it’s important we put in a good performance.”

On the referee’s performance, Newcastle boss Dean Richards said: “A referee will make three or four times more decisions per game than any player, and they’re under a huge amount of pressure.

“They’re human, and to be fair I didn’t think Greg Garner was too bad tonight.”
