Salop take huge step in title scrap

NEWPORT (Salop) landed a blow in the Midlands Premier title race by holding on to a single-point advantage and a 20-19 victory over Sheffield.
With little to separate the sides coming into the game, Jake Leonard kicked the opening penalties before tries by Jack Wells and George Castledine put the Shropshire league leaders into a commanding lead.
But Sheffield have promotion ambitions of their own and Lewis Taylor score an unconverted try to bring them back to 15-5 at the break.
