NEWPORT won at Sardis Road for the first time in 13 seasons as they inflicted only a second home defeat of the campaign on Pontypridd.
Diggy Bird kicked an early penalty but Newport hit back when hooker Matt Dwyer drove over from a lineout.
Two Bird kicks extended the Pontypridd lead in the 32nd minute before he missed with a monster effort.
On the verge of the break lock Andrew Mann capitalised on a mistake to score and Matt O’Brien’s conversion sent Newport 12-9 in front.
