THEY came in their hundreds to St. James’ in Piccadilly on Wednesday afternoon, packing the 17th century church to the rafters in final tribute to a vet from Tamworth who became one of rugby’s most influential figures. Micky Steele-Bodger, below, played just about every part the amateur game had to offer over the course of a long life: England international, selector, manager, committee man, RFU president, IRB delegate, pundit and a great deal more.
