NEWPORT held off a stirring second half fightback from battling Bridgend to leave the Brewery Field as victors.
Newport drew first blood in the fourth minute with centre Chay Smith dotting down under the sticks, converted by flyhalf Haydn Simons.
The Ravens responded with a penalty from No.10 Ryan Evans before Simons kicked one of his own ten minutes later.
The rest of the half was largely Bridgend pressure and they came close to going over, but Newport’s defence held firm.
