Welsh Plate/Bowl round-up
FORMER beaten finalists Nant Conwy remain on course to reach another Plate final after edging out Maesteg Quins 23-22 to reach the semi-finals.
Carwyn ap Myrddin and Carwyn Roberts scored for Nant, runners-up to Penallta in 2012. Both tries were converted by Arthur Lennon, who also added three penalties.
Lewis Tutt, Rhodri Davies and a penalty try were on the scoresheet for the Quins, who outscored the hosts three tries to two.
Davies also added five points from the tee.
Brynmawr are into the last four, beating Glamorgan Wanderers 35-19.
Zach Stewart, a penalty try, David Croft, Nathan Preece and Nathan Corlett were on the scoresheet with Geraint Langdon kicking their other points.
Ystrad Rhondda, the 2015 champions, went down 22-10 to Nelson at Ystrad Mynach.
Dan Davies crossed for Nelson; Danny Ellis booted the other points.
Ryan Howells went over for Ystrad.
Ystalyfera, beaten on try-count by Penallta in last year’s final, must wait after their quarter-final at Crymych was postponed due to the weather.
In the National Bowl, Porthcawl are one step away from a first trip to the Principality Stadium after an 18-13 win at Penygraig.
Josh White and Ben Asprea scored the Seaweeds’ tries. White added eight points from the tee.
Also in the semis are Pembroke who beat Deri 24-7. Dom Coleman, Sam Smith and Luke Hartland all went over for Pembroke – who also had a penalty try.
Deri had led 7-5 at the turnaround with Thomas Richards their try scorer, converted by Aaron Jones.
However the other two Bowl quarter-finals will have to be rescheduled with the weather forcing Cardiff University against Nantgaredig and Monmouth against Abercwmboi to be postponed.
