BARGOEDand Trebanos served up a cracking cup tie with 50 points on the scoreboard by half time.
The Swansea valley minnows threatened an upset taking a three-point lead into the half-time break only for the home side to reassert themselves during a gruelling second period and sealing the victory with a converted try four minutes from time. It looked as though it was going to be a long afternoon for the West Walians as they went 12-0 down in the first six minutes with tries from centre Darren Humphries and wing Ashley Norton, one converted by fly-half Ian Smerdon. They hit back with tries from scrum half Morgan Evans taking advantage of a ricochet and then a hack on and chase by wing Matthew Edwards who converted both.
Edwards extended the lead to 17-12 with a longrange penalty before hooker Geraint Clarke touched down for the home side to edge them back in front.
Another Edwards penalty trumped by a Jordan Howells try looked enough for Bargoed to end the half in front but hooker Chris Forshaw crossed for the last move of the first period with Edwards converting.
The second half saw the Premiership side take control but it took a Ieuan Jones pushover try from a five-metre scrum on the hour and a second for hooker Geraint Clarke to put the result beyond doubt with Bargoed running out 38-27 winners.
