Refs are not there to listen to players

LOBBYING was not once mentioned by Paul Rees in his otherwise excellent review of Matt Carley and his refereeing of the South Africa/New Zealand game.
I am reminded of what Nigel Owens said in a French Cup final some 20 years ago: “I am not here to listen to you, you are here to listen to me.”
In 30 years of refereeing I so loved that statement; in my opinion it should apply now so that these coaches refrain from these lobbying tactics. This might even be the intention and no it’s not undue protection of referees, it’s about undue influence of coaches.
