Q: What was your reaction to the RFU publicly backing Steve Borthwick?
A: Honestly, not much surprise. If you sack Borthwick, then you’ve got to have a replacement lined up who you genuinely believe will do a better job. That’s the reality of international rugby now. It’s not just about changing the head coach because results or performances haven’t fully convinced people — it’s about whether there’s actually somebody available who can come in and improve things immediately.
