We need the excitement of promotion

JOHN Allanson (letters April 26) is not the first to write of the widening gap between Premiership and Championship as if it is an organic process, almost a law of nature, to which ring fencing is an inevitable reaction.
It is not the reality, however.
Over many years those charged with the game’s governance have contrived to widen the gap. So in order to get promoted Championship clubs needed to get planning permission for and build a new stadium or move grounds.
