A GRIPPING contest unfolded in front of 450 spectators as Billingham edged out Tynedale in a match that more than lived up to its blockbuster billing.
Locked at 14-14 at half-time, neither side gave an inch in a fiercely contested opening period.
Tynedale struck first-half blows through Williams, who crossed twice, with Freeman adding both conversions to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Billingham responded through Lane, with Wilson’s boot ensuring parity at the break.
