Flawed crown jewel

THE Champions Cup needs a rethink – it used to be rugby’s crown jewel. The format was far better with a clear home and away pool structure. Cut it back to the very best teams in Europe – four pools of four makes sense – and somehow incentivise clubs to pick their best players, so far it’s been a joke. And South African sides – what are they doing in the European Cup?
