Steve Borthwick has been around the World Cup block a few times and knows his England side have to keep on winning tight games if he is to make it fifth time lucky – despite their dream draw.

Steve Borthwick has been around the World Cup block a few times and knows his England side have to keep on winning tight games if he is to make it fifth time lucky – despite their dream draw.
A squad member in 2007 when England made the final, losing 15-6 to South Africa in Paris, having been written off after a 36-0 pool defeat to the Boks, Borthwick has coached at three more.
In 2015, he was part of Eddie Jones’ staff with Japan, and in 2019, also with Jones, helped England to the final before being in charge for the semi-final near-miss against South Africa in 2023.
