The number of professional men’s teams in Wales is to be cut from four to three within three years.

The Welsh Rugby Union had been in favour of a two-team solution but last week announced there will be money for only three professional sides in the future.
The four existing sides – Cardiff, Scarlets, Ospreys and Dragons – will remain in the short term but are to be reduced to three by 2028, with sides based in the capital, east Wales and west Wales.
The two teams currently based in the west – the Scarlets and the Ospreys – could come under pressure to merge.
