Alex Sanderson has backed Byron McGuigan to become an international coach – but not just yet.

McGuigan, Sale’s defence coach since 2023 when he retired from playing, was part of England’s management team on the summer tour to the Americas as assistant defence coach.
He has been linked with a permanent position at national level, but Sale director of rugby Sanderson said England, who added Bath’s Lee Blackett to their coaching roster this month, were not in talks with McGuigan.
