MACCLESFIELD edged out Hull Ionians in a close encounter.
The hosts went into the break leading 16-12.
They opened the scoring through James Oliver, and Harry Oliver added three penalties for a 16-0 lead.
But Ionians finished the half strongly with tries from Adam Brankley and James Watts.
In the second half the visitors had certainly woken up and enjoyed a long spell of field position dominance, culminating in Cameron Burnhill going over under the posts in the 47th minute to take the lead.
