Battling Hull find Shard too sharp

THE unerring boot of Thomas Shard led Lymm to victory against Hull in an engrossing affair at Beechwood.

Adam Fletcher's side made the perfect start when Nathan Beesley raced over for their opening score after only two minutes, and while that stunned the visitors, they soon worked their way back into it.

Alec Renouf was driven over for the equalising score but what Hull perhaps hadn't bargained for was a man inspired in the form of Shard.

The Lymm playmaker knocked over two penalties and improved Rhys Lilly's score as he helped his side build a ten-point lead at the interval – Hull staying just about in touch via a penalty from Reece Dean.

When Jack Reynolds touched down for Lymm's third, swiftly followed by a third penalty from Shard, it seemed the tie was over but, to their credit, the Yorkshiremen rallied in the final quarter.

Bureta Faraimo and Peter Hudson-Kowalewicz barrelled their way over in quick succession to make it a sixpoint game going into the final knockings, but Hull couldn't quite complete the comeback, which was significantly hampered by Liam Regardsoe's yellow card.
