Gatland happy with bonus point but admits there is work to do

coach said after the game: “I'm happy with the bonus point. If someone said you'd have 10 points from the first two games, we'd have been pretty happy with that. Look, there were aspects of today, we probably tried to play a little too much rugby early on and didn't play a bit more territory and be a bit more direct.

“But some of those players haven't had a lot of rugby and making that many changes with a short turnaround. I just said to them in the changing room, job done. We've got the five points. We can be happy with that. And just (looking) for some players to be honest about their own performance and where they can improve.” Hooker Ryan Elias was forced to toast his opposition at full time as Portugal proved stiff opposition despite being eight places below in the rankings.

He said: “All credit to Portugal we knew they'd stick with us, they aren't here for no reason.

“We definitely saw some nerve wracking moments, they deserved their try but for us going forward we have got to be better, we've got to be more clinical in the 22.

“I think last weekend we showed how clinical we could be and this weekend we let that slip, a lot of work ons for us to take but what matters is we got the bonus point and we got the job done.”
