THE Owen Farrell disciplinary fiasco has multiple layers, but the one that looks most skewwhiff is the outright hypocrisy of this RFU administration.
It is a blatant double-standard for the RFU board, and the English union’s chief executive, Bill Sweeney, to trumpet the cause of player welfare in rugby union – including issuing arbitrary edicts about lowering tackle heights in the community game – while at the same time deploying a top end lawyer to get the England captain off a ban for a head-high tackle.
