Pumitas end with winning record

Argentina finished the tournament with more wins than defeats as they comfortably beat Fiji to secure a ninth-place finish.

Ratu Kavaia Tagivetaua went over from a driving maul to give Fiji a deserved lead, but that was the only time they would be in front in the contest as Argentina hit back brutally.

First, a brilliant team score was rounded off by winger Valentin Soler Filloy, and after Fijian fly-half Philip Baselala was yellow carded they would score two tries in the sin-bin period as Vaentino Minyoetti flopped over from the back of a maul and Ernesto Giudice finished well in the left corner.

Though Baselala returned, things quickly got worse for Fiji as Eliseo Chiavassa touched down and Tomas Di Biase (pictured) quick-tapped to give Los late penalty try to give Los Pumitas a 29-5 lead at half-time.

Fiji began the second half as they'd started the first as Waqa Nalaga broke through two tackles to power over, but a penalty try from a collapsed maul kept Argentina firmly in the driving seat.

Fiji had not given up and after two scores from Isikeli Basiyalo, the first a solo effort from 80 metres, they had cut the gap to 14 heading into the final 15 minutes. But any hope was short lived as Argentina responded instantly through Chiavassa, who dummied and finished off his second try to take Argentina three tries clear.

Although Argentina would finish the tournament on a somewhat disappointing note as Facundo Garcia Hamilton was red carded in the last five minutes.
