Newport homing in on play-off race

NEWPORT made it three wins in nine days as they beat Merthyr to move closer to the play-off picture.
They host Bridgend on Wednesday and any kind of win will be good enough to take them into the play-off places, and they have a game in hand.
The home side had a bonus point in the bag by the 50th minute and much of that was due to a sin-binning for Merthyr midway through the first half for a high tackle. The Black & Ambers snapped up two tries, through scrum-half Dafydd Buckland and Lloyd Lewis.
