Only two world wars have interrupted the annual England-Wales fixture since its inception on Mr Richardson’s Field in the London suburb of Blackheath 142 years ago.
The notion of Saturday’s game being sabotaged by one team going on strike may sound too preposterous for words but such a threat is not new.
On Friday January 19, 1968, the Wales team caught the train at Cardiff en route to Twickenham. The players, peeved at their ‘miserly’ ticket allocation for the match, became increasingly militant as they rattled along.
