‘Nuclear’ option on the table in financial crisis – Sweeney

RFU chief executive Bill Sweeney

RFU chief Bill Sweeney has said the 'nuclear' option of central contracts is on the table as English rugby wrestles with the fallout of its financial crisis.
The RFU and Premiership Rugby Limited (PRL) have already begun talks on a new Professional Game Agreement (PGA), despite current terms not expiring until June 2024.
With Worcester in administration and, subject to their appeal, suspended for the rest of the season and set to face relegation, Sweeney has been open in seeking wholesale changes to the way rugby is governed in England.
