McCarthy ‘really happy I told my team-mates I was gay’

LEINSTER scrum-half Nick McCarthy revealed he had considered quitting the sport as he did not think he could come out as gay while still playing.
McCarthy talked publicly about his sexuality in an interview with Leinster Rugby website on Monday.
“It affected me so much that I agonised over my future,” said McCarthy, who has made 46 appearances for the province in two spells.
“I came out to my teammates in January and I was obviously pretty nervous about doing so, but I’m really happy that I did it.”
