Omitted Conbeer can yet kick on, says Peel

DWAYNE Peel believes inform wing Ryan Conbeer was unlucky to miss out on ' summer squad, but is confident he can hit new heights next season.

Conbeer has been a revelation for the Scarlets this term with his explosive power and pace resulting in six tries in 11 appearances for the west Walians.

There were calls from many experts for to include him in his squad to tour .

But Scarlets head coach Peel insists the 23-year-old can take his game to a higher level next season, and eventually break on to the international circuit.

“I think he is unlucky but what I would say is he's knocking on the door,” said Peel when asked if he thought Conbeer should have been in Pivac's squad.

“The big thing about Ryan is when he came in at the start of pre-season he wasn't fit, and he struggled, but he has worked his arse off to be fair to him. He's lean, hungry for work, and there's plenty more to come from him moving forward.”

Talent: Ryan Conbeer

Peel has urged Conbeer to take a leaf out of Wales star Josh Adams' book by proving he can consistently score tries at the top level.

“He's always been a guy that can beat someone, but it is about repeatability,” said Peel. “I think at the top end of the game and at test level he needs repeatability to be able to go.

“For example, you see that with the likes of Josh Adams. He goes and goes again.

“I think that's what Ryan is starting to develop.

He's going to have another big pre-season with us, and we'll see where he is. We've exposed a lot of young players this season, so the foundations are set.

“It is over the next year or two where we need to be consistently beating top sides.”
