It’s July 31, 1971 early in the third Test between the British and Irish Lions and New Zealand at Athletic Park, Wellington. Lions scrum-half Gareth Edwards has seized onto a loose ball at the tail of a lineout and set off on one of his power-packed runs. Bob Burgess, the talented Kiwi fly-half, has tried to make a tackle but instead been lifted bodily off his feet with the extraordinary elemental force of Edwards’ hand-off.
