Bern’s on fire as Bears ease to victory

SARAH Bern's return helped Bears snap a four-game losing streak in style with an eight-try mauling of Waterloo.

The Red Roses prop rumbled over the whitewash six minutes into her return to the Bears fold and set her side on the way to a fourth win of the season.

Bern, a 31-time international, showed her power from the get-go and her close-range effort on seven minutes set the tone, with Simi Pam muscling over two minutes later.

Bottom side Waterloo briefly threatened with Elisa Jennings denied a certain try in the corner by a flying Lucie Skuse tackle.

Bears turned the screw as Phoebe Murray cut a sumptuous line and dived over for a third try. Amber Reed converted all three first-half scores.

It was more of the same after the interval as a sweeping backs move saw Lucy Attwood find Murray for her second try.

Reed excelled from the tee and with ball in hand, laying a try on a plate for Clara Nielson before Murray collected a Skuse kick for her hat-trick.

Attwood's alertness from a penalty saw her supply a seventh for Nielson and Rownita Marston rounded off the scoring from five metres.
