Austerity takes festive fun out of the RFU

BORIS JOHNSON has signalled an end to the government’s decade long austerity but there is no end in sight to the cuts at the RFU.
The RFU last week invited the media to a festive lunch with chief executive Bill Sweeney ahead of his last media briefing of the year. But cold cuts, roast potatoes and gravy were off the menu as was any chance of some wine. Instead wraps, coffee and water were served up.
The RFU’s annual drinks party with England coach Eddie Jones also didn’t go ahead this year with Jones already in Japan for the festive period.
