First victory delights Waterloo

Waterloo ……..20 ……..10

FIRWOOD Waterloo claimed their first win of the season against fellow strugglers Richmond.

They go level on points with their opponents and Warriors.

However, an inferior points difference keeps them rooted to the foot of the table.

Elz Isaac's penalty got the scoreboard ticking, but midway through the half Richmond got the firstscore, courtesy of an Ellie Boatman try.

It didn't take long for Waterloo to hit back as Laura Perrin slid in on her return from injury.

Isaac added the extras and a second penalty just before the break, but they began to live dangerously in the second 40 as Beth Stafford was sent to the bin for a high tackle.

Waterloo were unable to take advantage, however, and on the hour mark Perrin doubled her tally following some quick-thinking from a tap penalty. Once again, Isaac was on hand to add the extras and open up a 15- point gap.

That lead was cut to just ten with ten minutes left to play when Boatman scored her second try of the afternoon.

But it wasn't enough to spoil the Waterloo celebrations at full-time.
