AQUILE Smith grabbed a hat-trick against his former club as Birmingham Moseley got Adam Balding’s reign off to the best possible start with an 11-try win over newlypromoted Hull Ionians.
There were also braces for fellow winger Mason Tonks plus back-rowers Jacques le Roux and Buster Lawrence, while fly half Ben Palmer kicked 15 points.
Smith and Tonks were on the board for the hosts in the opening quarter, which ended with Joe Green kicking a penalty for the visitors.
