All Black baptism led me to a Slam

WHEN I was first picked to play for England against the All Blacks in the Autumn of 1979, I could only imagine what all the great centres around the country must have been thinking.
Here was a guy with only seven or eight games to his name in that position – having always been a stand-off up to that point – getting into the team ahead of them.
