Falcons swoop for Hardie

NEWCASTLE have signed flanker 16-cap Scotland John Hardie to help cover for the absence of club captain Will Welch, who will be sidelined for the next couple of months due to an ankle injury.
New Zealand-born Hardie, 30, was released by Edinburgh in June following a mid-season suspension for three months for gross misconduct in January following allegations of cocaine use. Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards said: “John is a proven performer at a very high level and it’s great to be able to call upon all of his experience and ability.”
