Vincent Clerc’s retirement along with that of another 37-year-old, Aurelien Rougerie, clears the way for the evergreen James to assume the role of the senior back still playing at the highest club level. He will be 37 next month.
Gavin Henson won’t be that old until the start of the Six Nations in the New Year.
