I was awarded my first rugby trophy in 1988 when I was six for ‘best effort’ which probably sums up my career! I just liked sliding around in the mud at that stage. After that I played for every Nottingham age group side right the way through to the first team.
The first of my 293 first-team appearances came as an 18-yearold blood replacement against Newbury in 2001. I was a goalkicking fly-half back then, 10-and-a-half stone wet through.
