SEVEN-time winners of the WRU Challenge Cup Cardiff went battled through to the round with this edgy win at the Gnoll. But it took a very fine last kick of the game from fly-half Gareth Thompson to deny injury-hit Neath a tremendous victory in what was a very scrappy game.
There was little to enthuse about in the first half but Neath did enough to take a 10-0 lead thanks to a well-taken blind side try from scrum-half Scott Gibson.
In addition to Gibson’s try, full-back Ed Howley added five more with the boot as the hosts pulled into the lead.
