IT IS one of the oldest fixtures in rugby, dating back to 1876, and it was Newport who deservedly won this latest saga.
It was an excellent bonus-point victory for the hosts and it avenged two defeats to Cardiff already in the league this season.
Newport edged an entertaining enough first half which ended 17-14.
The Black and Ambers took the lead with an early penalty through outsidehalf Matt O’Brien before the visitors went ahead when ex-Newport centre Will Rees crossed for a 20thminute try.
