Champions Cup play-off farce is poor advert for organizers

WHENthe clubs wrestled control of their major European competition from the Unions they did so on the basis that they would make it better because they were qualified to do so. Try telling that to the fans of Stade Francais and Cardiff Blues. Each having finished seventh in their respective domestic Leagues, they qualified for one of two play-off matches with the winner claiming the last berth in next season’s Champions Cup. All the clubs knew was that the game would be played at the Jean Bouin stadium in Paris.
