HIS name never seemed to merit a mention in relation to the best New Zealand coaches and yet Eric Watson could point to a perfect record during his time in charge of the All Blacks – Played 7, Won 7. What’s more, he performed the rare feat during those long-gone amateur days of navigating the Kiwis through a tour of south Wales without a major incident, although that remains a matter of some debate.
