Fixtures clashes are reaching crisis point
WHILST living 300-plus miles from Sandy Park my support over the past decade of my beloved Exeter Chiefs has never diminished but my current frustration has reached a crisis of how I really do now feel about the future of this great sport of ours.
On Friday, November 4 Exeter were ‘forced' into playing a very young and inexperienced side in an important game against Northampton Saints.
Without listing the players absent from the Chiefs team suffice it to say that 16 first team players were not available for selection almost entirely due to a raft of dubious Autumn International call ups and long-term injuries. Add to the mix the fairly imminent Home Internationals in the New Year and already this season the Chiefs are battling hard to get anywhere near the top four positions.
This all seems so unfair and must be a huge annoyance for the club and only emphasises the fact that key players across the Premiership will likely be foregoing an England call up to play regularly across the Channel.
