Part-time would be end of promotion

IN TRP last Sunday, Jon Newcombe quoted director of rugby Steve Hill as suggesting more clubs will choose the ‘parttime model'.

Given Richmond's experience 20 years ago and how others such as , and Wakefied suffered, Hill's view is totally understandable.

Sadly, if the Championship opts for the part-time route, that would suit the nicely; ring-fencing by the back door.

No club could suddenly, upon winning the Championship, go full-time and hope to compete in the Premiership.

The great unmentionable is a proper domestic representative stage because that wouldn't suit the Premiership.
