ANOTHER Wayne Smith, the highly accomplished rugby correspondent of The Australian, is calling it a day after half a century on the beat.

The friendliest and most generous of journalistic spirits, Wayne identifies John Eales as the best Wallaby he ever clapped eyes on and believes Tim Horan to have been the finest inside centre ever to pull on a pair of boots.

Not for the first time, he has it right.
