THE Scarlets are set to sign powerful lock Sam Lousi from Super Rugby giants the Hurricanes.
Lousi, who can also play in the back row, is expected to join the Welsh region following the conclusion of this year's World Cup.
The 27-year-old Lousi started his career in rugby league with Aucklandbased NRL outfit and is an athletic line-out forward known for his abrasive work at the contact area.
Lousi has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2019 Super Rugby season with a pectoral injury.
His imminent arrival follows the news last week that wing Johnny McNicholl has signed a new contract to remain in Llanelli.
Wales Grand Slam heroes Jonathan Davies, Ken Owens and Rob Evans have also all put pen to paper on fresh Scarlets deals.
“We're in good shape”, said Scarlets head coach Wayne Pivac, who will be succeeded by Brad Mooar when he moves to take over from Wales boss Warren Gatland after this year's World Cup.
“The squad for next year is looking really good. The change in coaching will bring some fresh ideas so I think we're in a pretty good space here at the Scarlets.
“I'm excited by the future of the Scarlets.”
