ON THE BLINDSIDE
Exeter Chiefs are in advanced talks with Newcastle Falcons and Wasps fly-half Will Haydon-Wood as Rob Baxter looks to replace France-bound Joe Simmonds next season.
Former England U20 international Haydon-Wood, who spent two seasons with the Falcons, played four games for Wasps before moving to Pro D2 outfit Massy Essonne in December.
The 22-year-old will be a direct replacement for Simmonds, whose move to Pau hasn't yet been confirmed but is happening, and Baxter is stepping up his recruitment.
He told a fans forum that he wants to strengthen his squad by recruiting a top quality winger to replace Jack Nowell, who joins La Rochelle this summer, and a centre.
A winger that could be interesting Baxter is Wallaby international Jordan Petaia, the Queensland Reds ace, 23. His CV is doing the rounds of clubs in England and France, where he is interesting Lyon.
