Blackett, 40, has been working for the in the since November after being made redundant by Wasps when they went out of business.

He is a front-runner to move to in a partnership with Ed Robinson, but now his name is being linked to the Falcons, who have been looking to see who is available for next season.

Blackett recently said: “I've found myself bored at times going from head coach to assistant,” which indicates he wants another top job at a club.

The Falcons have also been linked with Rory Teague, who is leaving this summer, and Mark Wilson has been mentioned as a possible dark horse contender from within the club.
