Dow back on bench as Kebaya gets start for England opener

Abby Dow is likely to make her return from injury off the bench, as 20-year-old flanker Sadia Kebaya gets a start for the opening game of 's Rugby campaign against .

Dow broke her leg in the against , but has completed an impressive recovery to be named among the substitutes, with Kebaya in for the injured Marlie Packer, who has a foot injury.

England will be overwhelming favourites to earn a 26th win on the bounce when they take on the World Cup debutants, but boss Simon Middleton has fielded a strong team as he looks to get the campaign off to a good start and build momentum.

Middleton said: “We've selected an experienced matchday 23 who we feel are in a good position to get our campaign off to a strong start.

“We know we could have selected any of the wider squad and there are nine players this week with a key supporting role.

“It's a privilege to come up against a team in their first-ever World Cup match. We know they have talented players and we're looking forward to the challenge.

“It's great to hear over 30,000 tickets have been sold for the opening day too.

“I'm really pleased with the group effort in training, and we can't wait to get started at an iconic venue in Eden Park on Saturday.”

World Cup debutants Fiji, ranked at 21 in the World Rankings, are 100/1 to win on Saturday.

Their ranking is eight places lower than any team in the tournament, and no team in the tournament has featured in less than three World Cups.

Their match against England will be the second of three matches at Eden Park, with – the second lowest ranked team – playing in the same Pool (C) earlier and facing in Pool A later.
